How do you stay heathy when sick?
I have been sick the last two weeks. My queastion is how do you stay properly nourished when you are vomiting up most of your food and vitamins. I am doing semi-okay with liquids. Should I give up on solid food and go back to shakes. Also my weight is dropping again because of being sick. I was trying to maintain and seemed to be doing good until I got sick. I am 6 months post op 5' 5.5" and 133. I really don't want to lose more, because I am already a size 2. My uncle also had RNY and he got sick last summer and lost 20 lbs!
Have you had a diagnosis because vomiting for 2 weeks is not normal - even with a virus or food poisoning, it should only be a one or two day event!!
If you have had a diagnosis and it is being treated, then you need to concentrate on hydration and then nutrition - whether that's soft foods or liquids.
The weight loss shouldn't be your main worry - you can try and remedy that once you are back up and able to eat properly.

If I am just sick for a few days, I just worry about staying hydrated. Protein and vitamins can be skipped for a couple days if needed. If I am sick for more than a couple days, I try to at least get some protein shakes in, or a clear protein drink like Isopure. Also if I am having trouble keeping pills down, I use ENS and Upcal D to get my multi and calcium in.
Have you been vomiting for two weeks? Have you been to the doc?

I have been congested for like 2 weeks ( This progressively got worse), I have only been vomiting off and on for 3 days and have a slight fever. I have went to the doctor, I had some sort of virus with congestion that turned into inflamation of the lungs now I am wheezing hacking and having a hard time breathing. Unfortunately my insurance keeps denying coverage for an inhailer with the steroid I need to help reduce the inflamation. Normally the doctor would perscribe a regular inhailer (which my insurance will cover) with the use of Nsaids, but because obviously I cannot have Nsaids I need the one with the steroids to reduce the inflamation of my lungs. The doctor is fighting with my insurance company saying the one with the steroids is necessary to get it approved but it can take up to 72 business hours,is what his nurse told me. I am really very miserable. I feel as if I am hyperventalating or that I just ran a mile continuously throughout the day. Plus it makes it very difficult to sleep or eat when you can breathe. I gag on everything and start vomiting. Swallowing pills is hard. My chewables seem to be going down okay at least.
Sometimes I hate insurance companies.
