What's your exercise routine?

I spent 30+ minutes doing power walking intervals on the treadmill and I feel good! Unfortunately, I have really struggled with my exercise routine and so everyday is a challenge to get moving. I would love to hear what everyone is doing for exercise. In fact, I'm waking up early to walk and do some ab work. What will you be doing for exercise tomorrow?

I am my own hero...I save myself one day, one meal, one bite, one choice, one challenge, one step at a time...

In the beginning, I walked miles on the treadmill,  swam in a heated pool for about 45 minutes 2 times a week, worked a little on weights, but stopped because of a hernia underneath my belly button.
I have to admit, I've become lazy. I'm 6 years out and really have never enjoyed exercise, except for swimming, usually a summer-time activity here in the south. As the chlorine started drying out my skin, I have been in the pool at my gym less and less.( 56 and looking it!)
I'm proud of you for sticking to it. I believe it will also help reduce bone loss during your weight loss. Metabolic Bone Desease is common after weightloss surgery that malabsorbs vitamins.
Heavy duty supplementing is neccessary.
So stick to your guns, weight-bearing exercises and vits will help you a lot in the long run.
Best wishes.

Add in some variety... when I was just doing the elliptical for 20-30 minutes I started getting bored.   Strength training is awesome anyway because it builds / maintains muscle and muscle burns calories...e ven just sitting around or sleeping!

If you don't belong to a gym or have access to one - use water bottles, milk jugs,  kid's sand pails etc for your weights. If you have kids play tug o' war, a small dog cuddle them against you while you do sit ups or squats.  See how many pushups / situps / lunges you can do during commercial breaks.

If you do have a gym - try to familiarize yourself with the free weights.  My fitness trainer doesn't really like machines because they tend to assist you.  Free weights work you more because you are trying to balance them  (ie - do a shoulder press on a machine, and then do it with 2 dumb bells... difference!).

Tomorrow I am working out with my fitness trainer, so there is no telling what I will be doing. In th past she has had me:
  - toss an 8lb medicine ball against the wall, squatting to catch it and standing to throw
 - walking lunges up a grassy hill
 - "burpees"   (push up, then stand and jump with arms straight up)
 - steps, holding a medicine ball over my head
 - lunges, holding a medicine ball over my head
 - resistance bands (chest press, triceps, biceps)

The main thing is to find something you can stick with and go for it!!

OMG! Burpees are my least favorite thing EVER! LOL! Granted, I was REALLY excited the first time I could actually do them. I would try and try and never succeed...then one day, BAM! I could do them! Now, I hate them! What a great workout exercise though!

Yeah... worked out with the PT today and she kicked my BUTT.  1 minute sets, a circuit of 5 stations -  BURPEES (and I do a modified version!) , kettle ball swings, squat rows,  step ups with high knee and "thrusters"  (weighted bar squats, then thrust the bar over your head, elbows locked when you stand).

I'd say she kicked your butt! Whew! I'm tired just thinking about it! I asked my boyfriend for a kettle ball for Christmas. It'll be a nice change for my off gym days.

I walk/jog 5K's 3 - 5 times a week (it's a hilly course).  I get on my Tread Climber for 30 minutes on the days I don't walk the 5K or sometimes I add in 15 minutes and use my home gym (Bowflex).  I try and mix it up.

Tomorrow?  It's my day off but both my girls have the day off along with their friend so we're going to go hike in a different park.

I am almost two years out, but when I was new post op I had a personal trainer for 8 monts. Kept me focused and taught me new exercises. Now I work out 5 days a week. I swim three mornings for 30 minutes and two days I run a walking circuit for employees for an hour.

Good luck

I do a variety of things...

Exercise videos at home (or exercise TV in the on Demand section of my cable box)...currently I use

Jillian Micheal's 30 day shred
Biggest loser cardo max
Bob Harper kettle bell
Jillian Michael's ab max

At the gym I use the following equipment
Percor (the one that looks like the stepper and elliptical had a baby)
Elliptical
Treadmill

I also found a really good Zumba /dance fitness studio that I go to (it's in Alexandria if you're interested).

I'm doing great with my cardio...I find that getting on the precor or elliptical helps me zone out for 30-45 minutes and de-stress after work.  What I need help with is developing a weight training routine to add to my cardio.

I enjoy working with a group so I usually do classes at the gym.  This is my schedule:
Monday:  Hour with weights and 30 minutes jogging on treadmill with 15 minute walking cool down.  Tuesday: Zumba Class.  Wednesday:  Hour with weights and Jogging on treadmill, Thursday Pilates class followed by Zumba Class.  Friday Hour with weights followed by Zumba class.  I take Saturday and Sunday off.  I am thinking of adding another pilates class on Mondays instead of the weights.  I also want to try a spinning class.  Maybe after the holidays.
