Hey so its been a lil minute snice i been on here so let me give a quick update.......well i'm two weeks and two days post op and i have been through sooo much. I had my surgery on the 9th and was released from the hospital on the 11th and was doing pretty good until that thursday night when i started feeling not so good, friday which was the 16 i went to the Er and they end up admitting me back in the hospital cause i was really dehydrated was released the next day the 17 and was feeling a lil better but still had real bad nausea and wasnt able or just didn't have the urge to get or drink my fluids and as the days went by i felt even more worser than i ever did....I went to my first post op app on the 22 and my blood pressure was supper high and i was so weak, you could look in my face and see i was dehydrated.....My surgeon was really upset with me and directly admitted me back to the hospital order blood work and it showed that i was dehydrated and potassim was low...so they gave me lots of fluids vitamines and potassium through iv's and i was released on saturday the 24 feeling back to normal abd nausea finally gone.......So yes i most say i have learned my lesson and doing everything possible to make sure i get my fluids in.......On my weight doing pretty good down about 30lbs in 2weeks is pretty good just taking it one day at a time......Hope everyone is doing good and wish everyone the best of luck...ttySoon

Yep, gotta get those fluids in!  I had to get IV fluids twice after my RNY, too.  Being dehydrated like that will cause horrible nausea.

It isn't easy. If I take two gulps I already feel bloated and have to wait at least 5 minutes for more. I carry a water bottle around with me wherever I go, and I still doubt if I get even 48 ounces down per day. And the doc wants me to drink at least 64!

It's not easy. But it IS important.

There is a reason for the mantra:

"walkwalkwalk, chewchewchew,sipsipsip"

You cannot gulp water, but you can sip constantly. Just imagine these little sips going through that tiny stoma and keeping you hydrated w/o an IV.

Good luck
