Hello to all,

I am new to the board. I am a mother of 4 kids and a nursing student. I have lived with diabetes for almost 11 years. I have decided 2 get the gastric bypass. I am lucky because today i found out that the surgeon I have has stopped accepting the medicaid care as of this month but because I had my appointment set up they will honor surgery. I am excited scared and know I have 2 do exactly as they say because if not then I have no options.

I am 240 lbs and am unable 2 lose the weight due to taking to much insulin. I was able 2 lose it once after my second baby but once I got pregnant again with my 3rd have been unable 2.

I look forward to hearing from any advice given to me and reading people's stories about going through the process and having the surgery.

Hello Christina,
I had my surgery a little over a year ago, and this site was my daily obsession for advice prior to, and after surgery. It helps to talk to those who have gone through it. If you have any questions do not hesitate to put them out there.

Welcome Christina!

I've been using this site since August 2008 when I began researching WLS.  If you read enough on here, you'll see that many people are successful and many are not, regardless of the type of surgery.

The key to success is taking advantage of the amazing tool you are getting to COMPLETELY CHANGE YOUR LIFE-how you eat AND HOW YOU MOVE YOUR BODY.

Exercise is a primary key to long term good health and overall weight management.  Please start now.

Jumping in to agree about the excercise.  It has been hard for me to get started even though I remember how good it made me feel years ago when I did it regularly.

I went back this week and have been going most days.  I am sleeping better at night and while I wasn't depressed, I feel a marked improvement in my overall mood.  I am much more upbeat.  Guess it's those natural endorphins at work!

Welcome Christina!

Hope that things progress quickly for you.  I also have 4 kids and a similar starting weight.  RNY was one of the best things I ever did for myself.
