Diet Advance
RNY on 01/13/12 with
How did everyone's diet advance? My dr just put me on a full liquid diet, so i can now have SF pudding, low carb low sugar yogurt, pureed cottage cheese and such. How long was you guys on that kind of diet before you could advance to semi-solids? I had my surgery 1/13 so I am only a little of a week post-op. I dont go back to the dr for a month and he didnt say when to advance. Just wondering how long I should stay on this diet? or do you think I should just call his office and ask them?

I was on liquids until my first appt at 2.5 weeks. You should call your MDs office and ask them.
I came home from the hospital (day three... open RNY) on soft foods... scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, oatmeal, cream of wheat, yogurt)... and was eating moist chicken, fish, etc. after 2 weeks, so that should show you -- just in the responses you have received so far -- how VASTLY different individual surgeon's plans are.
DEFINITELY call your surgeon's office and ask. I am very surprised that you did not receive that info before surgery!

I was on full liquids for one week when I came home from the hospital, then on pureed foods for one week, then on soft for one month. But all docs have different recommendations.

I did liquids in the hospital for a few days ( India, they wouldn't let me leave!). That was jello, broth, SF sherbert, tea, water, veggie broth, thin cream of chicken soup with no chicken!
Then full liquids including potatoe soup, yogurt, whipped sweet potato, butternut squash soup, thin tomato soup, etc. That lasted for about 3 weeks, when I advanced myself to tuna salad, flakey fish, creamed potatoes, creamed cauliflower, scrambled eggs, grits, egg salad, baked acorn squash, refried beans with melted cheese, cottage cheese with SF jello, baked eggs with ricotto cheese and very finely chopped sausage, etc.
After a couple of weeks of this, I pretty much went to whatever was protein, veggie and sat well with my tummy. Ground beef with sauces, turkey dark meat with lite gravy, chicken, or tuna salads still, salmon patties made softly, then broiled and served with an aioli, I even ate sardines which I never liked before, but were so nice and salty!
Follow your surgeon's plan, but some decision making of your own along with common sense will help you along.

Mine is two weeks of full liquids (Greek yogurt, blended soup, ricotta cheese, etc.) followed by five weeks of soft foods (scrambled eggs, ground up chicken salad, etc.) followed by regular foods. I'm almost done with the full liquid phase, and I can't wait for (chopped up) shrimp salad on Tuesday.
The five weeks of soft foods ends on my birthday! How's that for timing?
