10 days post-op and need support

Right now I'm sitting here while my family is eating and with every noise or comment about food I get more agitated and upset. Im still on a full liquid diet. I went to eat some cream soup for dinner and the thought of it made me nauseous. I dont know what to do? How to cope with it? my family needs to eat. I just wish I could chew something!!! any ideas how to get past this hurdle??? Im on the liquid diet until 2/10.
I believe your feeling is completely normal. I was on liquids for six weeks so I really had to work through things too.
Right now you're going through alot and your emotions and hormones are up and down.
I agree that you just have to separate yourself from their eating, distract yourself by going and doing something else: writing in your journal, watching something on TV, listening to music, anything to get your mind off their eating.
This too will pass, I promise and you'll look back and wonder what you were so concerned about. You have to focus on your long-term health, not the short term satisfaction of a quick bite of this or that. Be strong, you can do this!

I am just a few days ahead of you. My Dr let me start mushy foods at day 8 but it is not much better. I still want something to chew. Sugar free popsicles and sugar free gum are the best optons I found. Sometimes I can't be with my family when they are eating and sometimes I can. I like to try to eat with them, but sometimes I have to go to another room or even get out of the house. if oatmeal is on your list of foods you can get the old fashion oats and mix sugar free coffee syrups in with it with splenda. That helped me feel like I was chewing a little something. I feel for you I am in the same boat. Everyone says it gets better.
Try Body By Vi Protein Meal Replacement Shakes with Almond milk. low sugar, hi protein, low carb, use extra ice and its like a milk shake but lactose Free. mitzitaylor.bodybyvi.com Sure wish I would have had this to get me thru after my surgery back in 2003. It has helped me lose the weight I regained.
For right now, don't sit with your family while they eat. It is just torture. Be nice to yourself and don't subject yourself to that. Go to your room and relax and distract while they eat.
It's too hard while we are on liquids to sit at a table with people eating. It's only a little bit and then you can rejoin them and do something else.
I am 12 days out, but I can eat blended foods. I still am not sitting with them at dinner. But we are together the rest of the night for talking and tv and things.
-this is the hard part!!!!

When I was in that phase I told my family to eat out! I even saved money for that purpose. Also I wouldn't eat with them when they did stay home . The other night they picked up McDonalds for dinner and it didn't even phase me. I'm over it. I know I can't have it and I won't have it. It gets easier once you can eat some food again. Hang in there it does get easier.
