Hi Jennifer, was your incision infected all so? If so how long did it take to heal, and did it feel better the next day after you had it drained? I have to call Monday to see when they want me there to redo the packing. Just can't wait to really get up and move move move!!! This isn't me I am never down like this it SUCKS!!!

First of all, I need to issue a disclaimer. My prior surgeries were for endometriosis and a gall bladder removal. I'm going in for RNY later this month.
But, here's the story. It was 2004, and I was diagnosed with a grapefruit sized cyst on my ovary. I went in for laparoscopic surgery, which was succesful. This is generally outpatient surgery, and I was released later that afternoon. Unfortunately, what I didn't know when I was released was that my incision was almost two inches long. I wasn't given the appropriate post-surgical instructions, and I ended up with a burning infected mess in my lower abdomen. When I didn't feel like it was healing, I had my husband look at it, and he insisted I made an appointment for the doctor immediately. I don't recall it hurting anywhere near as bad as you indicated, but it was hot, burning, and wet. What did I know? It was my first ever surgery.
When I went to the doctor, they cut it open and cauterized it with silver nitrate (a measure that was necessary because when they cut it open, they hit a bleeder). THAT was painful. They ended up having to pack it, and they gave me oral antibiotics. The whole thing took a lot out of me.
I had to have this procedure repeated two more times. The second and third times, it wasn't as bad, but it was pretty bad. It definitely felt better after the draining, and the antibiotics helped a lot. However, it did set my healing back. I wasn't completely normal for four months. That doesn't mean that you won't be fine. I've never had a problem since (despite having even more serious surgeries), and I was definitely able to get up and move the day after getting my first treatment for the infection.
Just follow the doctor's instructions!
