Hi all,

My husband is now looking at the possibility of having wls.  He is 69 and is on Medicare with Tricare secondary.  Sadly, the wonderful surgeon who performed my surgery does not accept Medicare.

Does anyone know of a surgeon in Central Florida who accepts Medicare?  My husband is looking at either RNY or the sleeve.

Any suggestions would be so tremendously appreciated.

Thanks all!!

i have tri care and dr marema or your dr were the only ones that tri care said i had a choice to go to....and tri care does not cover the sleeve, choice is lapband or rny bypass...
i think medicare follows the same guide lines at tri care or tri care follows medicare....i have no idea if dr marema in orlando takes medicare or not...i just know what tri care told me when i started this

Sometimes medical providers who don't/can't accept medicare can bill the secondary insurance directly, but is often a hassle. I'm a counselor and Medicare does not recognize counselors for mental health services - so when I get clients who have medicare and medicaid, I bill 'caid and get a letter from Medicare to prove I'm NOT a provider. Again, probably more hassle than a surgeon wants to get in to!
Might be useful to XPost this on the Florida state forum - they're often slow going but you may get more area-specific feedback. Also calling up member services to get a list of providers and find out what are the requirements for coverage is a good idea!

Try Joel Sebastien at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, FL. Or check out his website at East Coast Bariatrics. I know him personally and professionally, he is an amazing surgeon. I can't confirm or deny the medicare issue, but I think his office does accept. He's worth the time looking into it.
