My hubby started mushies on Sunday and he is having a hard time figuring out how to get everything (especially water) in.  He is doing really well and his surgeon is very happy...I think we are just being paranoid.  lol

I was also wondering if you could share some of the foods and how much of it that your eating?

Thanks in advance for your replies!  I love how helpful this board has been!

Did his surgeon give him a schedule and a sample diet plan? Mine did, and it helped to consult the timeline whenever I started wondering how often I was supposed to be eating. If not, ask for one.

I have been really fortunate to have no complications or side effects, and have healed quickly. I actually feel hungry occasionally, as opposed to a lot of fresh post-ops I've read. So figuring out when to eat hasn't been much of an issue. But if he doesn't yet have those hunger signals coming, then he should definitely ask his surgeon for a recommendation on sample plans.

I wake up at 7:30 and have a bottle of water while getting my kid ready for school. I also take my Vit D, Calcium, and multivitamin.
I eat breakfast around 9:00am. Usually takes me about half an hour to eat 1/2 a cup. I like to rotate between greek yogurt with Splenda and a spoonful of sugarfree jam, cottage cheese with crushed pineapple, or a protein shake.

I'll have more water or Propel between 10 and noon. I try to get two bottles down in that period.

Then I have lunch around noon. This is also when I take my B12, zinc, and Iron.
I eat an assortment of things:
- Canned, chunky beef or chicken soup over mashed potatoes
- Pressed turkey breast and gravy
- Tuna or turkey ham salad
- Soft-steamed veggies with Unjury cheese sauce
- Cottage or ricotta cheese with marinara sauce and parmesan*
- Refried beans with taco meat and mild salsa, a sprinkle of cheese

I usually take a couple hours to eat lunch. I'll make a normal-sized bowl of something and eat a spoonful of it every couple minutes. They say not to multi-task while you eat, but I find it helps me space out my meal better. I'll work on a project, take a bite or two, go back to work some more, etc.

More water/Propel between 2 and 5ish. Then I start getting ready for dinner.

Dinner is usually leftovers from lunch, if I have any. Or something else from that general menu. I eat a much smaller amount than I did at lunch, and it takes me about 20 minutes. (+ calcium and multi)

Sometimes I'll have a sugar free pudding cup for dessert, but I haven't really been craving sweets. Then more water throughout the evening until bedtime. Sometimes I'll have a glass of juice if my calories for the day are low. I take my last calcium at bedtime.

Best of luck, and speedy recovery!

* (I like to blend my ricotta with an egg, thyme, basil, garlic, pepper, and a pinch of salt. I layer it with finely crumbled ground beef, and bake it in individual ramekins. Top with marinara sauce, and it tastes JUST like noodle-free lasagna)
