My PCP can go into his computer and see ALL the prescriptions filled by the pharmacy. I don't know if that is because I'm on a pain contract, or if it is because he just can see the info. I remember looking over his shoulder and he had information about all my meds on there (from teh pharmacy) albuterol all the way to oxycontin. Once I signed that pain contract wth my PCP though, I won't take prescriptions from other docs for pain meds. Or if they do prescribe pain meds, I take the scrip to my PCP so he can determine if my regular pain meds will do the trick.

Yes it is perfectly legal.

It is illegal for a person to get multiple narcotic prescriptions filled from different doctors, so the pharmacy software will flag people who have had narcotic scripts filled by multiple doctors.

This is to protect the doctors as they are responsible for all scripts they write, I believe it may also be required by some regulation.

People would be shocked of they knew some of the information that is known and shared about them.

I'm surprised I haven't been flagged or put in jail! LOL! I have three doctors that prescribe my pain meds! Granted, they are all connected in a network and know exactly what I'm on all the time. I usually tell them as well. I had been on narcotics for over a year and had to finally ask the doctors if  there were other meds that would work just as well that weren't narcotics.   Such a pain in the rear!! I am surprised though. Noone has ever questioned me about them all. They'd just presribe a higher dose if the ones I was on weren't working. Scary thought that they'd just keep prescribing them to me forever if I said I was in pain.

What if the dentist office in question puts a sticky note on every patients file that has a major procedure listing their narcotic history? Just a thought...

I guess its possible, but when I was in the throws of throbbing pain and they were refusing to prescribe me anything higher than aT3 every 6 hours I now know I must have been "under suspicion" for drug addiction. Jerks. I have a family member who is a drug addict and I can't believe they put me in the same class as her.
