2 years out in July and almost 5.5 months pregnant

I had RNY in July 2010 so I am almost two years out! The last two years have flown by. I pretty much got to my goal weight, and in January I found out I was expecting. My hubby and I are so thrilled and we couldn't ask for anything more. I am off of all my medications that I was on prior to surgery (except insulin) and my bp and everything are perfect. I just got my last AIC result, and it was 6.0 even, so yeah!!! Baby is doing very well and is expected to arrive mid Sept. We found out last week are expecting a little BOY and his name will be Joel David.
I am eternally grateful for gastric bypass for making this little miracle happen, and I am praying for 4 more months of an uneventful pregnancy!!!! Here I am 5 months pregnant.

I'm so pleased to her your post.  How are you handling becoming pregnant following RNY?

I hope to have kids some day, and I want to know that a RNY wouldn't negatively affect that.

Thank you for all of your encouraging words! So, I had a few questions that people wanted me to answer regarding pregnancy and gastric bypass, so here goes. I was about 18 months post op when we decided to try and get pregnant. I was 7 pounds away from my goal weight, but I thought that it would take a few months to get pregnant...wrong! lol We got pregnant the first try, but I did lose that 7 pounds during the first two months of pregnancy, which was fine by my ob doc. I have gained 5 pounds during the first five months of my pregnancy, and bc I am still not tiny (still 170 pounds at 5'8) I don't need to gain a lot, hopefully no more than 15-20 pounds total. Bc of the surgery, I am only on insulin (type 1). I am off of all other meds except vitamins and minerals of course. It is CRITICAL to take a prenatal for at least 3 months BEFORE you get pregnant, especially with RNY. I was on them for 6 months before we got pregnant. It is totally doable to have a healthy preg. post RNY, but it does take some work. First, I wouldn't get pregnant before 18 months post op bc that is your ultimate losing time, AND you need to be stable diet and vitamin wise for at least a few months. I am way healthier now after RNY than I was before. My preg. would have been a train wreck before RNY. I would suggest you visit your OB doc before getting pregnant to have a healthcare provider do labs, look at food logs, etc. You will be considered high risk bc of the gastric bypass so you will need to see a specialist. But, with all that said, it is so worth it and I wouldn't change a thing!!!! ;-) Hope that helps, and if I forgot anything, just let me know!
