I'm almost 9 months out , I'm doing well. Down 120 pounds. So why is depression starting to set in?  Anyone else in the same boat?

I am sorry this is an issue for you!! Makes a difficult journey that much harder!! From what we are taught in our program, depression is one of the most common issues after wls!! It may not be normal for you but can and does happen to soooooo many on this journey! Do you have a psychologist with your program you can speak with? My program does and I can schedule at anytime and a requirement is appt at 6 months. If you don't have that option, speak to your primary physician. The worst thing to do is not to talk and I am glad you at least posted. Take comfort in knowing you are not alone!!! Hugs

I can think off the top of my head two things... 1 you are getting toward the end of the "honeymoon" phase... a lot of people have mentioned that once most of the weight is off the comments, and the feeling of pure excitement at the changes in your body stop and you have to learn to live with the new you... the person you don't really recognize yet in the mirror?  or perhaps 2 a lot of people use food to help them cope with their emotions and that is gone now.

or it could be a million other reasons... :)  Go see your dr... tell him/her how you are feeling.  they will help you or get you help.  There is NO shame in feeling down and needing help... you have done the first step, saying something to us.  :)  You will be just fine!!

Talk as much as you can get people to listen!  hugs!

Holy Cow....You have done amazing on your weight loss journey. Depression seems to be something that happens to many at the stage you are at. My suggestion...talk to your doc or see your therapist (or) get one. You are worth taking care of You!

along with all the other good answers , fat hold estrogen and when we loose fat we loose estrogen and that can cause depression
Large weightloss involves way more than just loosing weight.
If you choose to go on medication make sure your doc knows that you can not absorb time released meds or if you do get a time released you may need a higher dose than non bypassed people.
