Last night I had a weak moment.   I feel I need to fess up and let it go to start again...My son had fried chicken, as I went to put it in the trash I broke off a piece of crispy.   I PROCEEDED TO CHEW IT UP AND THEN SPIT IT OUT.    I AM EMBARRASSED I DID THIS AND DISAPPOINTED IN MYSELF    BUT THAT WASNT THE END    I THEN LICKED A HUSHPUPPY.    I KNOW TO SOME THIS SOUNDS RIDICULOUS AND I CANT TELL YOU WHAT I WAS THINKING.    I THOUGHT IF I JUST LET IT OUT I COULD MOVE FORWARD MORE EASILY.   I THINK IT IS TIME TO SEEK HELP VIA THERAPY.   THANKS FOR ALLOWING ME TO VENT AND GET THIS OFF MY CHEST.

I think therapy is helpful for most people on this WLS journey, honestly.    I don't think you need to beat yourself up over it.  I think you just need to take steps to deal with the problem in the future, and therapy is a great step.

I have not yet had sugery and am new to OH, but I have been reading a lot of blogs and watching a lot of video blogs from people who have had surgery and I have seen several who confessed to chewing foods and spitting them out. So you are not alone.

I had a moments of weakness, I ate a donut once (not the whole thing), and I drink, even though I know I really shouldn't. I do limit the number of drinks I have per week

I have eaten a lot of things "off plan" in the last 8 years but if you feel this might be a problem (regularly chewing and spitting out is considered an eating disorder) then maybe therapy is in order ...

I really don't like to see people encouraging disordered eating so I won't tell you it's ok or pat your hand but if this is a one-off behaviour I would just move on - if it's something you have done on several occasions then I would suggest you seek help!

I'm a little confused. Are you embarassed and disappointed that you almost ate fried food, or is it that you chewed it up and spit it out?

If you're embarassed and disappointed in your food choices, then take it as what it was--a less than healthy choice. It's not the end of the world and doesn't make you a bad person or a failure in any way. You won't always be able to stay on plan 100% of the time for the rest of your life, so learning how to move away from the poor choice and move forward without beating yourself up and feeling guilty is a good skill to acquire.

If you're embarassed and disappointed in the spitting-it-out part, then it's healthy that you're aware of that. As Kim said, repeatedly doing this is a sign of disordered eating, which is never okay to ignore. It's good that you're calling attention to it yourself, and if you see it becoming a pattern, I'd seek therapy.

Either way, if this was an isolated incident and is not becoming a routine for you, I'd let it go. There's no reason to agonize over every slip-up or misstep. Just do the best you can do in this moment. If you veer off just a second and eat a piece of crispy chicken that you're not supposed to eat, then swallow it and move away towards a better choice. No biggie. It happens.

Therapy is always a good idea - from the big issues to small tweaks. The chewing & spitting behaviors can feel disturbing and hopefully your therapist can help you identify some alternative behaviors and addressing making eating a conscious & peaceful choice!

Don't be so hard on yourself.  I think most of us have weak moments now and again.  As the others have said, if this becomes repetitive or happens often it may be a problem, but an unwise choice on rare occasions is not necessarily a horrible thing.  It just shows you're human and occasionally give in to temptation.  You didn't totally binge out, you just had a small taste.
