i had lapband in 2009, and ive lost about 80 pounds but thats not all the weight i needed to lose. i still have a way to go. started at 350 and im 280 now, and im pregnant so im not getting anything done anytime soon. but i plan on getting a revision to my surgery after having the baby. but im curious about your views on the RNY pros and cons. any help would be apprecaited!

I actually wanted the gastric sleeve, but because of severe GERD, I needed to have RNY because it was the only wls that would improve it. For me, there are 2 negatives to this surgery. 1. You can't take NSAIDS due to high risk of ulcers. 2. The malabsorption ends around 18-24 months. I do dump on high sugar, but I feel it's more of a deterrant than a negative.
Because the part of your intestine that is bypassed contain villi, which are little "fingers" that grab the calories & nutrients from your food. It takes about 18-24 mths for your body to figure out what you did to it & regrow some of the villi in the lower part of your intestine that wasn't bypassed. However, you will never regrow the part that absorbs certain vitamins/nutrients & that is why you must supplement with daily vitamins for the rest of your life.
