Hospital
I'm the outlier here-- 6 days; open RNY with scarring. My initial insurance approval was for two days, but the utillization review team at the hospital kept on top of that.-- I used to do utilization review, so I know how that works. As long at it is medically necessary (IV meds, IV fluids, not meeting criteria for discharge) you will get insurance approval for additional days.
What they look for is: are you off IVs? on oral pain meds and tolerating them? eating? (even minimally)? able to urinate and move your bowels (or at least, pass gas)?
No fever, no signs of infection?
