This is so embarrassing. I am 8 weeks post-op and have lost 50 lbs. I still have another 80 lbs to go. I have this stomach flap (apron) that is driving me crazy. Does is get worse as I lose more weight?

I can see the outline of my hips now, but I can't tell if it's because the (apron) is shrinking or if it's because the (apron) is starting to hang more. Yuck!!!

I already know that skin removal is in the future. As for hygiene, what is the best powder to use for the skin to skin contact?

I went to my doctor and he prescribed a powder. Plus that way I have a record of what's going on with my skin and it's easier to get approved for a removal from my insurance.

Will insurance cover something like that? Its not considered cosmetic?

We had a plastic surgeon come to one of our support group meetings and he said that it is difficult, but not impossible to get insurance to cover it. He said that they will sometimes cover it if there is a lot of documentation of rashes due to the skin on skin issue. So, whenever you do get a rash, always go to your PCP to make surei t's documented if you are thinking of having surgery at some point.

Zeasorb powder. Anti fungal powder in the foot care department. A little pricey, but only takes a little bit. super absorbant powder. Never use baby powder. It doesn't do a good job of absorbing the perspiration and results in an environment for bacteria. I will be going to my doctor though to document rashes every time I get one.

Generally speaking, if you have enough problems occur with the apron, such as yeast infections, insurance will consider it a medical necessity.  It is a GREAT idea to have your doctor prescribe you something because like the person before said, they will have record that you are having issues and need medication to treat it.  I am having the same problem and they prescribed me Nystatin.  It works WONDERS.  Good luck!

My dr. said once I start losing more weight that might happen and said once it starts see a Dermotologist and make sure it is all documented for insurance because some insurance will cover skin removal but you have to have all the dr. notes and charts.  I would ask if they can recommend one in your area that has worked with excess skin before.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I have a doctors appt coming up soon and I'm going to make sure that it's documented. On my way to the store now to check out some powders. Baby powder just isn't cutting it!!!
