Mag citrate??

Following up with my previous post about severe constipation...

Can we have magnesium citrate after surgery?! That's the only thing that's done it for me the last two times I was this constipated, not even suppositories or hospital administered enemas worked. My only concern is the carbonation. I had rny on July 31, so I'm not quite 3 months out and I obviously don't want to hurt myself by trying to rid this issue. But I'm desperate. And that's what worked like magic twice before.

What kind of mag citrate are you using that is carbonated?  Our program said no carbonation, ever (yes, I know this is a point of contention on this list).  I take the mag citrate capsules.  They're large though, so I've opened them and put them in my protein drinks or in pudding/applesauce.

It isn't actually carbonated.  It contains a combination of saline and sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) that gives it a slightly fizzy effect.

Does liquid Senna work for you at all? I was sent home from hospital with a bottle of that stuff and I thought it worked amazingly. ( Not that I liked it)

Thank you, everyone. And I didn't know it wasn't actually carbonated, so that's a hell of a relief. Thank you!

I use magnesium every day. In capsule - pill form. I take magnesium citrate with my calcium (250 mg mag for every 500 mg calcium) and then take up to 800 mg mag oxide in capsule form every night. Cheaper and easier to take.

Hey Beans!  I also deal with constipation.  I have the best luck with Prunelax.  It has dried plums and senna in it.  You can take 3 in one day.  I may need to take it two days for some action.  At the same time I use a fleet enema.  It's like an attack from both ends if you get what I mean.

I use the Prunelax about once a week to make sure things keep moving along and I don't get into a poopy crisis again.  I try to use it when I know that I'll be home about 12 hours later since it takes a while to work on my.  Drink a lot of water that day to help it work better.

Sorry your  having problems.  I hate having this problem!

Oh, cool! Where do you buy it? Is it available at normal drug stores?
