Wondering about poo after gastric bypass
Unfortunately I have a very personal matter to discuss but here it goes. Since my su
rgery my bowel movements have turned huge. Like wont flush huge. I go about every three days it isn't always hard to go but the size is huge. I'm nervous to go at someone else's house for fear of plugging the toilet. I read that I may need fiber but I've also read that too much fiber can cause this too? Is this a common issue after surgery? Does it have to do w the malabsorption ? Sorry for the gross subject just wondering if anyone else deals w this ?

I am 11 weeks and have had the same issues...Dr said to take a stool softner...I tried 3 colace daily and it did nothing...switched to dulcolax softner and it has been a blessing...within a week I am going more regularly and it is not longer hard and painful...hope this helps....
That issues is far easier to deal with than constipation. My wife had a revision to a RNY from a 1980 gastric surgery in 2008. She has periods of this issue every couple of months. The most distressing part is that it usually plugs up the ability of the toilet to flush. I keep a plunger handy by each of the 3 bathrooms in the home. Some of these stools are so large and long, that flushing can only be done by using an old scrap of thin lumber to cut the stool into 3 pieces or so to make them flush. DAVE

OK - Here is what my doctor told me to do. Take Miralax each night as it can soften the stool then it won't be so large in my opinion (in diameter). My husband has paralysis and Miralax was what they had him take after surgery and after pain meds as he was doing what you described to toilets due to his very slow bowel activity. Also, my doctor said it is OK to take some Metamucil Clear & Natural 3 X day. It works for me so I hope it works for you. Let us know as some of us are feeling your pain.

I need to add - that is Miralax AND Metamucil on the same days, not separately. We need all the help we can get!
