Hair Gain

I'm a newbie. Just 3 months out from rny surgery. I've read many post about hair loss and have been preparing myself mentally for it to happen to me.

I know that we shouldn't compare ourselves to others, but I was wondering if anyone have experienced hair growth? I wear a wig because I don't like fussing with my hair. My hair is chemical free and I keep it conditioned.

I've noticed that my hair is growing and appears to be thicker than it was before surgery. I take my vitamin and mineral tablets daily. I also drink plenty of water and get my protein in.

Is this something that happens the first few months out and your hair later falls out at 5 or 6 months?

 You're weird!  :D

I've never heard of anyone getting MORE hair that early out!  I started losing at 3-4 months, I've stopped losing now (9 months) but have yet to see regrowth.

You're funny!!!

This is freaking me out because I keep reading post like yours. I was wondering if my hair is reacting to all this doggone protein and water.

Who knows. I might be growing hair now, but it will later shed along with these extra pounds... LoL

Hey, I get all my protein, drink plenty of water, take biotin and vitamins, and mine still fell out.

I call say you're weird.  But in the nicest possible way.

Wow that is awesome! Maybe you are better nourished now  that you are post op with all the protein, vitamins? Who knows!

For me, the hair fell out early and pretty much through out the first year. I am almost 5 years post op at this point, and my hair has improved, but it does not grow like it did pre op. it is a bit stringy and short.

I always take my vitamins, I eat well, drink my fluids, but have never been able to grow my hair out again.

Best wishes :)

I have the same issue. I get enough protein and vitamins but my hair grows much more slowly than it did pre-op. I am also 5 years out and it is only in the past couple of months that I have been able to start to let it grow longer. Up until now, I had been having to keep trimming it while trying to wait for the hair I lost after surgery to reach even midway between my ear lobes and shoulders. I also did not get all my hair back; my ponytail is only about 2/3 of it's pre-op circumference (and about 1/3 of the length!).

I also had a second round of hair loss, though, at around 3.5 years out. Probably peri-menopause related because my labs were all good. That didn't help, and I fear I may never be able to get my hair back to the length it was before my surgery.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

You got lucky, run with it!

I had a bunch of hair loss at 3 years out but not much right after surgery.  I don't understand that either.  It's fine now except two years ago when my then 8 year old broke her arm.  Half my hair turned silver overnight.  Seriously.  My body is so weird.

My experience was 3 months started falling out stopped at about 9. - Clockwork.

Maybe your hair was not in great health being under the wig all the time.?

14 months out and it looks like crap.  All the old long strands are gone and it is all the 2 inch new hair on top and it is sparse.  I did have it cut to even it out but the texture is awful.  This is something that I didn't know would happen beforehand.  It wouldn't have changed my decision but it happens.

Im 16 months out and lost at about 4-9 months and then again a few months back...just had it cut to midback to even everything up but it is thinner than it has ever been.
