Elevated B12

Good Afternoon,

Just got a message from my the bariatric clinic regarding my 1 year blood work and my B12 levels are really elevated.   I am currently taking 1000mg of B12 every other day and now they want me to take the same dosage every third day.  Just wondering if this is a common side effect of RYN.  I made an appointment with my family doctor for next week to discuss, however she has never had a patient go through WLS.  I've been researching it online and according to the web, taking too much B12 will not cause elevated B12 and that it is due to liver issues......not sure that I believe that but it is still kind of scary.

It's not dangerous to have a high B12 reading. You just pee it out. I don't know anything about the liver and B12.

How high is elevated?  B-12 is a water soluable vitamin as the other poster stated you'll pee it out.  However, I wouldn't recommend something that is totally way out there.

I personally like to keep mine between 1500-1700.

I was also told my B12 was too high and to take it every few days. Will see how that looks next time I go for blood work.

My 9 month labs showed that my B-12 was close to 2000. After talking with my surgeon about my concern, he said he wasn't too concerned about it since it is a water soluble vitamin but that I could cut back a little & it would be fine.

Always ask for the number. What they consider "high" may not be. The number ..the number!
