13 months Post Op and Pregnancy concerns

So October 4th was my year out post op mark. Lately I have been extremely tired and falling asleep almost as soon as I get home after work. I had my appointment with my surgeon who suggested my tiredness was likely related to the hours I work and I should be fine. A co-worker of mine and I were talking and she said to me jokingly that I may be pregnant. My husband and I have been using birth control methods so I didn't think it was a possibility but bought a test to be sure. Sure enough I took a test, and its positive. It was very faint but positive. I have proceeded to take 3 more test over the last few days and all the same results positive but faint. I called my OBGYN but can't get in till Nov 26. I am sort of freaking out. I always wanted a child but was under the impression that getting pregnant before 18 months out is very dangerous. I feel like I am walking on pins and needles right now because I don't want to do anything to sabotage this pregnancy. I know miscarriage rates could be high. I am just super nervous right now which is why I took to this board to see if anyone post op has had a similar experience as mine in terms of becoming pregnant before that 18 months out mark? Was the pregnancy successful, baby healthy?

I am sure the baby will be as healthy as possible....you on the other hand may get seriously nutritionally depleted.  Pregnancy ensures that the baby gets their nutrition from you.  You get the leftovers (if there are any).  That is why you are told not to get pregnant before a certain time to ensure that your body (including kidneys, etc that are processing the weight loss) have a chance to recover and stabilize.

Congrats on your pregnancy.  You may want to start taking two maternity vitamins a day to ensure you have enough folic acid for the baby`s brain development.

Here is the LINK to the pregnancy after weight loss surgery board. I wouldn't panic at all! I would, however get in to see your surgeon and nutritionist to get on the right track. It is unlikely that your OB-GYN will have a clue about weight loss surgery. Pregnancy test kits that say positive are pretty accurate these days!!

Congratulations :)

You will be fine!! The same thing happened to my sister in-law!!  After she went through so much hell with  hormone shots and introvert fertilization tries after tries, they finally had 1 son then 2 years later twins and thought they were done and got rid of everything! I think she was just a year out if that and it happened all natural!!  Her daughter is very healthy and my sis is working on losing the last of her baby weight!  All is fine! Oh and she has a 20 year old daughter too!!! So it can be done...  Good luck sweetie and please keep us posted!  Try not to worry to much and try and enjoy this good news!

We get people on here that are a month or two post surgery, so 13 months shows restraint LOL!!!!   You'll be fine ...  Get a referral from your OB to a maternal/fetal specialist to monitor you.

Good luck and CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

No more freaking out allowed. :) My good friend just gave birth to her first child about 2 weeks ago - she got pregnant within weeks of her 1 year surgery mark. Many docs only make you wait a year. Best of luck to you on this new part of your journey!
