I'm so puzzled

I am 5 1/2 wks out from my surgery. I have been getting the stomach growling hunger pains... Is this normal to be getting hungry like this? I don't want to eat all the time and mess up my journey. I also don't want to starve myself to death. I have lost 24 lbs since my surgery and afraid that if I eat when my belly growls, I will gain all the weight I lost (60 lbs) since new yrs wknd 2012.

Can anyone help me?? I wake up at nite being hungry. I don't want to fail. And my sister is hoping that I do.

I'm not so sure if you are genuinely feeling "hunger" but instead the sounds and sensations of the small intestine that has been pulled up to and stapled to the pouch. My doctor said that the sounds are normal intestinal sounds that are a good sign and usually subside over time. You may have your brain saying hunger-hunger. Maybe use the opportunity to drink liquids as you can feel less head hunger from it. Dehydration can create feeling of needing food. I recall thinking I was hungry but it went immediately away after about 10 minutes of sipping my sf crystal light. Just a thought.

Are you drinking enough water? Sometimes those sounds are thirst. Stick to your plan and you will do fine!

I don't get the 64 oz in. I am doing good to get 1/2 of it in. But I do try to get it in.

I am just about 5 1/2 weeks out also, I had my roux en Y on Oct 8th.  I had hunger feelings as well, but I have found that they happen when I don't drink enough fluids.  My stomach does make noises from time to time, but they have nothing to do with hunger.  I was told that if you don't  "water your pouch" through out the day, you will be less satisfied with meals and more likely to snack.

That's good to hear. I always take a bottled water to bed with me. I do wake up at times parched.

I have a hard time getting chicken down. Tuna is easier. I am on protein meats as well as the shakes, cream soups, ricotta cheese, eggs, yogurt. plus the sugar free jello, freeze pops, sugar free pudding....

I am in bed n can't get to sleep cause if my skin itching.

Push the liquids. That should help. Measure your foods do you will not overeat. I really don't believe you are experiencing hunger.

I am going to repeat what has been said already because it is REALLY important. You have to work harder at getting in your fluids! The itching that you mentioned is a sign of dehydration. PLEASE concentrate on pushing those fluids, you don't want to fool with dehydration.

At almost 6 weeks out and only getting in about 32 ounces is definitely a problem. Are you counting the fluids from the SF popsicles and protein shakes?

I am not doing the shakes right now.. hubby and his one daughter bough flavors I do not like cause they liked them.  soon as I get $$$$ I'm getting the Vanilla stuff for me.

I do get 2 little things of SF jello in every day.  I have cup cream of chicken soup every day as well.  plus the 2 16.9 bottles of water.  I take a bottle of water up to bed with me at night.

I eat tuna and other protein foods like eggs.

My one son--in-law's stepdad had the surgery, they don't count the SF jello and stuff like that as fluids... jus****er...

I would love some Sweet tea from Mc D's, but it's high in sugar and caffiene...

Have you tried the Crystal Light Iced Tea? You really need to increase the fluids any way you can. If you have to, take a 1 ounce medicine cup, fill it with water and set a timer for every 10 minutes and think of it as your medicine. One ounce every 10 minutes all day, even taking out the time to eat and waiting after to drink again, you will get in double what you are getting now.

You will feel better and your body will thank you, honest!!
