With coffee before RNY I could take it or leave it.  Now I really enjoy a small amount in the morning.  But, I don't like bitter coffee.  I have tried all brands...The one keep coming back to is McDonalds!  Yeah, a $1.00 cup from McD's.  So do you notice the bitter aftertaste of coffee now?  Brian  PS...Yes, I've tried it...I keep going back to McDonalds...  PSS  I think they are starting to sell bags of McDonalds coffee in Canada for a test run...

I just recently had caffeine again and it does seem stronger.

Mmmm, coffee *said in the same way zombies say 'brains'* I love it. I don't notice it having a pronounced bitter flavor now, but I do notice I like it to be practically boiling.

I buy whole bean coffee and grind it every morning fresh. But some brands seem to be more bitter, Starbucks for example. And hey, I'm from the PNW, so I can say that.

I fight badgers with spoons.

As many know our taste buds after surgery are off the wall.  While I was allowed d-caf coffee, it tasted terrible.  Now that I am 8 months no problem.  I make my double espresso skinny cappuccino every morning and enjoy it now as much as I did before the surgery.  It took me until about 4 months where everything started to taste normal.  Jane

Prior to my surgery I loved I mean loved coffee.  I would drink it first thing in the morning and last thing before I went to bed.  I ground my own beans, too.  Now even after 4 months I can't stand the taste of it.  It does not matter decaf or not I don't like it any more.  But I am not throwing out my coffee maker, yet.  As I still have hope my taste buds come back to their senses.

Before WLS, I drank maybe two cups of caffeinated coffee.  After WLs, I grind my own decaf beans and drink about 2 pots of coffee every day - from wakeup to bedtime.

Stopped by our local coffee shop called "Ground Control" (I am a sucker for cute names) yesterday and had a soy(I am lactose intolerant mostly too, lol) decaf coffee with a splenda and it was soooooooo good!  I am going to be making my own now rather than spending 3.50 dollars for one itty bitty cuppa but yes, I loved coffee prior to this surgery and I think it will be a treat down the road.  Some coffees are bitter but I know the ones I like!

I haven't noticed a difference.

The coffee they sell at McDonald's is Newman's Own. Not sure if that's available in Canada? Also, you cut down the bitterness by using a lighter blend and add a pinch of salt to the grounds. Don't let it sit on the hot plate too long--that also makes it taste more bitter.

Good luck!

Actually Newman's Own is the brand of salad dressing McDonalds uses. Newman actually donates all the proceeds from the Dressings to Charity which I am impressed with.

The coffee is Gavinia (from Cuba). My Husband has been employed by McDonalds for 35 years and keeps me informed of their products. I have always enjoyed McDonalds coffee.

I loved coffee prior to surgery and once I had surgery I could not drink it as it all tasted bitter and nasty. (I drink my coffee black) After 5.5 months I was able to drink coffee again.
