Braces and Gastric Bypass

This may be a dumb question but i had my surgery Dec 4th and they asked me numerous times did i have any metal caps, fill in, crowns etc. Now my friend is having the surgery in July, but she is getting braces in Feb or March. Will that effect anything or stop the surgery?

Doubtful!  I think the reason they ask is so that the anesthesiologist knows whether or not they have to look for potentially loose things in your mouth when inserting the breathing tube. If something were knocked out of place and swallowed by the patient, that would be very bad.   I'm sure your friend will be fine with braces.  Best of luck to her! 

It shouldn't. My retainer is cemented to the back of my teeth and it wasn't a problem.
