Yes- revising from Sleeve to RNY..... Yes-I know the DS is the second part of the Sleeve...

So I came back to OH becuase the first time I had surgery I had such great support, the advice was helpful, the forums were great. I didn't realize that going from the sleeve to RNY would get such negativity.

So before I get bashed on please remember a few things. People come here for support, not to be bullied, not to be ridiculed for decisions being made, but for SUPPORT. By no means am I trying to be rude its just that the last 2 post I have put up about advice for liquid diets, staying on track, etc have ended up being a bash on why I'm not doing the DS surgery from a sleeve.

First and for most I have done my research, yes I know the DS would be the best revision since it is the second part of the sleeve. My insurance says my BMI is not high enough for them to cover and I have no underlying issues besides obesity. I have no blood pressure issues, no diabetes, nothing at all except asthma but I've had that since I was 10 and didn't get fat until 10 years ago. So with that being said, I AM REVISING TO THE RNY March 11th. My decision is made, my family supports my decision after going with me to my Dr apt and talking to other surgeons as well.

What I'm asking is for support, for someone to check in every now and then. It's different from having support of family and loved ones then having support from someone that actually knows what you're going through. What emotions are tied to this, what obstacles we endure. It's a mental thing for me that I have worked hard on changing! So basically I'm asking for support, I'm asking for anyone that has advice, and especially if theres anyone who went from the sleeve to the RNY! Thank you ahead of time for not leaving negative comments. I had negative comments my entire life about decisions I made and being fat, I would love to know that I have 1 place that I can go to besides home for support so please no negativity.

First of all, I'm so sorry you got such negative comments on your posts.  I don't understand why people can't be supportive of one another.  Its nuts.  I'm assuming any doctor that would do the surgery would know what they are talking about WAY WAY WAY better then anyone on this message board.  So as long as you are good, your doctor is good, and your family is good...GO FOR IT!  I cant help you with the revision, I did not have the sleeve, I did the RNY right off the bat.  So I have no idea what your revision is going to be like.  I can totally tell you my experience after the RNY.  I would be happy to be your support person.  I am 6 months out of surgery and feeling wonderful.  I can honestly say, this was the best decision I ever made in my life.  The beginning was hard, but I am learning every single day.  As my daughter (who is 9) says...Momma, you so much happier now.

Good Luck and keep me posted!!

Thank you so much! I would really appreciate the support. It's hard enough and scary enough to know that in 8 days I'll be going under the knife. I already felt like a failure from ME failing the sleeve so being bashed on before a revision isn't all that helpful nor hopeful!

I've made the necessary mental changes, and still working on some, that assisted me with failing my sleeve. I feel that this is the best decision for my family and I. We want our lives back and with Momma running the house :0) ( don;t tell my fiance) I need to be happy again!!!

I'm not sure why some DS'ers feel a need to troll this board - there are lots of RNY'ers who advocate the DS and will guide people to their forum - I'm one of them!!!

If you have made up your mind, then so be it ...

You are welcome here and I am more than happy to give you support and answer any questions you may have about the RNY!

Thank you so much!!!

I'm a teacher, special ed, and I'm using spring break and another week for recovery. I'm wondering now if I should take an extra week. Also, is there a protein shake that you recommend. My Dr. likes optifast but it's not something that I easily have access to. I know that SAMS sells Premier protein but I haven't done any research on that one.

I'm an autism mum so I appreciate how physical it can be in Spec Ed sometimes!   I really didn't have any pain or problems after surgery and so would have been fine after two weeks, but you know how well you tolerate surgery/anaethesia etc - take the extra week if you think you might need it!

I've never had a protein shake or bar so I can't help with any recommendations, I'm afraid - there are lots of people on here with opinions on them though and more than daily posts so I'm sure you can find an answer to this easily!

My best recommendation for early post surgery is to concentrate on drinking clear fluids - way more important than getting your protein - that will come once you have mastered the whole fluid drinking thing!  (No one ends up in the ER for protein deficiency but lots do for dehydration!!)

Hi there-I am a teacher too. I'm taking off 4 weeks total. So really that is 3 weeks plus spring break.

Best of luck to you!

Hi. I'm having surgery the same day as you. I don't have any advice as I too am headed into uncharted territory, but if you want a friend who's at the same place as you, send me a friend request. Good luck!

I would say absolutely take an extra week. It was hard for me to get used to the routines... And I was sore and lethargic. Didnt feel up to speed for a good five weeks... No regrets though. I feel GREAT now:)

That's what I was thinking. My Principal is great and just told me to put the absences in by the middle of the second week if I decide I want more time off. I teach Emotionally disturbed and Behavior students so I have to restrain them on a weekly basis. I know I wont be able to do that for a while but I think you're right an extra week is what I should plan for.
