Can we be serious about Heparin shots?

Ok, so I know heparin is to help you in the hospital. Whatever. After 3 days in the hospital, I had around 10 of these. THEY SUCK SO MUCH. I have GIANT bruises and welts on the backs of my arms. A few of them are golf ball size bumps.  Each time they had to give me one, I would just tremble. They burn and feel horrible. Now my arms are so sore that I cannot even lift them.

Just one of the many things no one warns you about with surgery.

Hmm, did your surgeon tell you that they are given to prevent horrible complications such as blood clots which can and do kill without warning?  I don't know but for me the trade off was well worth it.

Sad you had a bad time of it.

I was given my shots in my abdomen and they didn't hurt at all.  I have no idea why you had so much pain and swelling but that is not the norm for many people.  Ask your surgeon why you had so many problems when you talk or see him again.   Jane

Oh under the arm, OUCH!  I had quite a few shots as well and the nurse asked me where I wanted them, either under the arm or in the belly bellow the button area.  I didn't even think twice, I couldn't imagine getting a shot under the arm.  I as well have bruises and still do have a few and I am 4 weeks out.

I agree the trade off was worth it, but that doesn't make them suck any less

Mine were all in the belly, and I guess the nurses were really good - didn't hurt much at all.  They just pinched up a little roll of fat and it was a tiny, tiny needle - hardly felt it.  I'm sorry you had such a bad experience.

They do suck- but are necessary. While in the hospital I got mine on my upper thighs.
