Infertility/hormone imbalance after surgery

So prior to surgery I was having irregular periods which I attributed to my extreme obesity. I was 380 pounds at my highest weight.  I have lost 144 pounds now and will be 7 months post op on May 24th. I have continued to have irregular periods and went to see my OBGYN. My FSH was 40. Extremely high. I went and had labs repeated and this time had the following: FSH, LH, Estradiol, and HCG.  Labs were as follows: FSH: 36, LH: 22, Estradiol: 15, HCG: less then 5,

This all points to premature ovarian syndrome.  I am so upset by this. I am not trying to get pregnant yet obviously but we do want a baby in a year or so. I don't know if anyone understands these values or has dealt with this.  I am so upset, I am only 30 years old! I will be going to see a specialist.  I have been crying all day. :(

Do you mean polycystic ovarian syndrome? If so it's extremely likely you had it before when you weighed 380 lbs and its probably getting better because of weight loss. There's no did definitive test for it, it's an array of symptoms, most people that have it are heavy, especially apple shaped women. I wouldn't worry about this just yet, it's likely that as you continue to lose weight your hormones will continue to get more regular

I wish I knew more about it.  I would definitely talk to a fertility doctor.  Maybe hormone replacement therapy could help.  Don't give in yet, find out your options, and go from there.

I would work with a hormone specialist who utilizes bio-identical hormones and see what you can do to get everything on track. Additionally I would talk to a fertility specialist and have him or her work with your hormone doctor to come up with the best plan for you, perhaps harvesting eggs for embryos to go into deep freeze until you've stabilized your weight for 18 months.

I have a (very thin) friend who at 32 was in premature menopause. They extracted her eggs, made embryos and she went on to have two gorgeous daughters a few years apart thanks to IUI. This can happen to the thin or the not so thin and don't blame your weight for your issues. Fertility doctors don't only see the larger population. :)

I actually meant premature ovarian failure. More like early menopause.
