Problems with Eczema after Surgery

Hi,

Before surgery, I never had problems with eczema; however, it seems to get worse each year.  I'm almost 2 years out.  My PCP and dermatologists don't think it is related to the surgery, but I can't help but wonder.  Has anyone else experienced this problem?  Would there be a nutritional reason for it?

i didn't have it pre-op either. it started about 6 months post-op. i've wondered the same thing too, but have thought it was more related to stress.

Thanks for response.  It's certainly possible it's related to stress  I haven't found much to help it that doesn't have side effects.

I had the opposite.  I had eczema before surgery but have not had any issues since surgery.

I'm convinced that something happened to my skin after my original VBG back in 2001. Ever since having that surgery, going out into the sun results in WELTS and major itching. It's horrible. I'm not sure what the medical/nutritional reason would be, but I can tell you with 100% certainty that it only started after that surgery.

I've had eczema my entire life, and when my thyroid level is off, and there's more inflammation in my body, it's worse. Maybe have your thyroid levels checked, just to be on the safe side?

I am, so far, the opposite. I have had eczema all my life and psoriasis the past 5 years.  Within 2 months after surgery I am totally healed and skin is baby soft. Left with the scars but I will take it!

I did not have skin issues before but now I do. My skin gets much worse if I use any splenda (sacralose); aspartame gives me wicked headaches..
I have to use cirtisone cream every day...
I also developed sensitivity - food allergies.

It's interesting how different people have had different reactions.  I just feel sure my eczema must have to do with surgery.  Low strength cortizone creams don't seem to help much.  The high strength ones help but they tell me I can't use them very often.  Thanks for the tip on thyroid.  I will get it checked next time I have blood tests.

Before I had the gastric sleeve surgery my skin was clear, I got complements about the color of my skin ask the time. Now, I'm constantly at the doctors, I have to go to a dermatologist, they keep telling me I have eczema, my skin itches so bad that sometimes I scratch until I bleed. I now have black scars on my arms, people are constantly asking me what's wrong with my skin, I have to rub steroid creams on my skin to keep the eczema from getting to out of control. I've had to take antibiotics when I've scratched too much and it becomes infected, and I never had any skin problems what do ever until after the surgery
