How many calories should I be eating in a day?
I have been focusing on protein instead of calories and I almost always get my 60 g. However, I have been noticing that I frequently only get around 600-700 calories. This doesn't seem like enough. How many calories should I be getting in a day?
I exercise M-F in the morning to an exercise video for about an hour and on Tuesdays and Thursdays I go to a personal trainer for a pretty hard workout.
At six months out, yes, you probably SHOULD be getting more calories, especially if you are getting any kind of regular exercise. Keeping the calories too low for too long can cause the body to drop the metabolism permanently which is definitely not a good thing for the long-term. Unfortunately, how many calories varies from surgeon to surgeon, and some surgeons (like mine) gave NO calorie guidance whatsoever except for a general guideline for maintenance (with lots of caveats about activity even, muscle mass, etc).
Unfortunately, there is no single answer, especially not knowing how much physical activity you get.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
My doc does not want us to count calories...just to make sure we get 70g + protein in. So, I have only focused on that and not worried about the calorie counting. I would think I get anywhere from 700-1100 per day. I am almost 10 months out though. It seems like every doc is different, so I would just definitely follow what your's says you should be eating, or go by what others do that have the same doc maybe.
