Rumor Mill....It was only a matter of time, I guess.
So my poor husband just told me that, while he was at the horse races on Monday (It is county fair time and we live in a small rural community), someone came up to him and very sincerely said "I am sorry to hear about you and Gilly". Evidently there is a rumor going around that we are getting divorced. I figured that at some point there would be a meddlesome bitty who would make a comment about how I was probably cheating on my husband now that I have lost all this weight, and would be leaving him. Luckily, my husband is not the jealous kind and he is secure in our marriage and knows that this is just some rumor going around. It has been YEARS since I was the subject of the rumor mill....I guess that I should just be glad that they are talking about me again! Someday the new will wear off and they will move on to someone else.
I really don't care what they say about me, and like I said he just kind of laughed it off....but there have been times in the last few months that I have seen a little insecurity in him now that I have lost so much weight. I know that he knows that the rumor isn't true and that I ADORE him....but I just hate that anyone would put such thoughts in his head.
My hubby used to joke about me wanting someone else when I lost the weight. He finally got the sleeve and lost weight himself and then I understood how he felt a little better I was jealous. I understand about small towns its crazy the crap they think up to say!! Congrats you look great!

I learned a long time ago that everyone talks about EVERYONE - just human nature, I guess. I try not to take it personally, but it is difficult. I agree it just sounds like some jealous person probably started this awful rumor. Kudos to you and your wonderful hubby for handling the situation with grace and a bit of humor. As I'm sure you know, these situations blow over, and you just have to wait to see who the next victim...errr, topic of conversation will be - lol...

Losing weight to getting a divorce? That's a bit of a jump isn't it? And it makes absolutely no sense - especially if someone thinks it's that concrete that they would commiserate with him on your upcoming divorce! It would be different if it were couched in "I saw Gilly, boy she's lost a lot of weight, make sure she doesn't leave you, Bro" That would be more like a meddling compliment and I personally wouldn't worry about that at all.
I wouldn't be so sure that this has anything to do with your losing weight and would definitely find out where this is coming from ... Someone really doesn't like you if they would say this sort of thing!
Another reason I don't and won't live in a small town - your life belongs to everyone else!
