How do you know you've had it for more than two years if it was just diagnosed?

because I keep all my labs and  post in my computer and follow.  Started taking iron suplements after my RNY. Then it was increased to 2 per day then 3 per day.  It was evident that it was not effective.  Oncologist does labs ever visit and the recent lab on Tuesday show it was dangerously low so the is doing the infusions.  He told me in June that I might have to have them so he decided to do it on Tuesdays appt.  Iron is vital for hemoglobin to carry oxygen in red blood cells all over the body.  Cannot be ignored.

Thank you for your response

I'm in this battle too.  My last labs put me at 10, what are your levels that your doctor feels you need an infusion?  Thanks for the information.

You need to have your dr give you infusions.  My oncologist decided them and I didn't have to ask.  Minwere at 19 and the range is 40,0 - 150,

If mine is "seriously low: then your would be DANGEROUSLY LOW.    Fatige is just a sympton.  Iron if vital to oxyges going to all parts of our body.  It helps Hemoglobin store oxygen  to the red blood cells which carries it all over the body.  I'll bet you are short of breath big time  besides being very tired.  You need  to see the doctor first thing on Monday.Plezse do it.  If he doesn't have time see another of your doctors.  This is more serious than I realized.

Fairly common in our population - I have them every 12-18 months or so ...  Very simple process, mine takes about 4-5 hours and I feel better in a couple of days.

Your response is so greatly welcome.  Oncologist said one of the chemo drugs i took last year could have caused

the anemia as well as my RNY.  Hard to determine.  Thank you so much for your quick response.

My wife had infusions.  They were time consuming but effective.   She felt the effects (less fatigue) at the end of the six-week cycle.  She gets her ferritin checked once a year.
