What is Going On??

I've been in a stall for over 2 weeks now. Not only am I not losing, but appear to be gaining. I lost 24 lbs withing first 3 weeks, now I am 6 weeks out and I have gained back 3 lbs. this is very discouraging. I have had post surgery infection that I am still trying to recover from and my tummy is still swollen. Likely have to go on 3rd round of antibiotics to deal with infection. I haven't felt good since surgery, no energy, sickly tummy feelings, and caring for this infection. I am taking in about 400-500 calories a day and getting in around 50-70 grams of protein a day. Just beside myself with how I feel so crappy 6 weeks out, and not losing more weight. Thanks for letting me vent.

I'm so sorry to hear that you are still not well! What is you plan for aftercare since you had surgery in Mexico? Does your primary care phys. Step in?

Yes. My PCP is in charge now, even tho MX surgeon is still in contact. Got another appt today. Thank you for the prayers. I truly want to be more optimistic but just not there yet.

If your belly is swollen, the 3 pounds is probably excess water.  Also, 400-500 calories a day may be too low (and your body has dropped your metabolism in response to it).

That's what I was thinking. I am going to try to get 600 calories but I truly have not appetite. Some things I liked last week sound terrible this week. Hoping its the swelling that is causing this gain but still frustrating I'm not losing more. I hope I can get to goal someday.

I 2nd the calories too low concept. When I was at my last apt, about 6 wks out, I sais I was averaging 400-550 cal/day, and the doc said that was too low and your body may go into starvation mode & not lose. I would ask your doc's office how many calories you should be up to

The infection is likely preventing weight loss as well.  When your body is fighting infection or trying to heal a wound, it can hold onto all of it's resources trying to build cells. 

My nut says no less than 800 calories per day.

I would also try to boost my protein a lot during your healing phase, it will help.

You are still at 24 pounds, which is 4 pounds per week - so don't be too bummed.

Stay off the scale, drink more fluids, add a protein shake, shoot for more calories.  Get well and be positive!!
