sugar question

I am GREATLY affected by sugar since surgery (almost 2 years ago). If I have something with more than 15g of sugar per serving I feel like im going to die for about an hour (I get super hot blood pressure and pulse go up and get nauseous). Now my question is.... will there be a difference in reaction between say sugar in a cookie and natural fruit sugar in a naked juice? I have been told they are 2 different types of sugar. I really want a naked juice because they taste amazing and they even have high protein ones BUT, the bottle shows like 25-50g of sugar per serving. I am really wanting to know if there would be a difference because if I tried to drink something with that much it would probably put me in shock just knowing what 15g will do.

There are different types of sugar, yes.  But it is still sugar.  The fructose in fruit might affect you the same way as the sucrose in a cookie and it might not.

Have you eaten other things with fructose, like a piece of fruit?  How did that affect you?

What about lactose, the natural sugar in milk?  Does that affect you the way sugar in a cookie does?

Yes, I am affected by milk as well I can't drink much anymore. As far as fruit I have made smoothies with a variety of fruit and protein powder and it didn't bother me.

That's an awful lot of sugar for a "naked" juice!  I would double check the ingredients for added sugar.

Many people have no trouble with natural fruit sugars, but some do.  Have you ever had issues with fruit, especially those with higher sugar content?  i would suggest trying the fresh fruit first (since sugary liquids will hit you much more quickly, and --some say -- harder than solid sugary food).  I can personally drink more sugar in fruit juice than I can eat of processed sugar before feeling icky.

I would also recommend trying just 1/4 -1/3 of a serving of th juice at first to see how it goes.

I guess it depends on serving size.  One cup of OJ has 21 grams sugar and one cup apple juice has 24 grams sugar.

Yes.  The 25g didn't surprise me, but 50g of sugar did.  I have not seen the bottle sizes, though, so you have a good point.  I assumed the serving size would be one cup.

Sugar delivered in a liquid is a much quicker and worse dump for me than that in food ...  YMMV!
