Best Bariatric products??
About Time whey.. all natural.. very mild taste.
Sometimes "bariatric" is more expensive that normal low carb protein shake - because of the name..
Nectar proteins - are good, so is Matrix, and so many others...

The New Whey protein shots are mostly collagen protein, which is what's in Jello. It's an incomplete protein. They are a waste of money.

What makes protein powders "specifically made for bariatric patients" different than protein powders made for anyone?

There's really no need to pay more for protein powder. Find a low carb, low sugar, higher protein powder (I want 25 grams or more) or RTD protein you like. You can order samples of different kinds to try AFTER surgery as sometimes taste change from before. Check out vitalady.com, bodybuilding.com and bjsbariatrics.com to name a few places that sell samples.

As others have stated no need for an expensive protein powder because it's "made for bariatric patients" Just make sure it has the right kind of protein and that it is low carb.
That being said, I do pay more for my protein powder from Celebrate because I use it for vitamins as well as protein. Their ENS shake has vitamins in it so I am required to take less in other forms. I've always had an aversion to pills so this works for me.
My nutritionist is very firm on getting her to check out any I want to use before I count on them. Like others have mentioned already, not all protein is the same. She told me that a lot of the ones sold have protein in them, but it isn't in a form where we can actually use it. Aside from the ones here, she said that the powder from Walmart brand has the right ingredients and should work as well for me. Right now I'm getting ready to try the unjury chicken soup!
Pam,
We have the same surgeon. I HATE going to Walmart, but went yesterday for another cannister of Body Fortress Super Advanced Whey Protein. Now I know 1 tub lasts one month. I am a little ahead of you. Tracy was very clear in preop class that some proteins aren't complete. I was planning on trying unjury soup as well. Did you order unjury from their website.? I was hoping with all the no shipping specials to find a site that had it without spending a lot to ship one little package! Let me know if you like the soup.
