Is it safe to take stomach acid reducing medications after RNY?

Hello, I had RNY four years ago and have been having problems with gastric juice reflux. I was placed on Dexilant and it seems to be helping. I welcome any comments regarding this issue.

Yes. In fact, some surgeons prescribe them routinely for a while after RNY.

Yes it's ok to take. I do caution you to be sure to watch your calcium as there are increased chances of fractures related to long-term PPI use.

I only and the RNY on 12/26/13...but my surgeon prescribed prilosec in the granular capsules upon leaving the hospital.

I was prescribed Prilosec post op and have to take it for 6 months.

I was on Acid Reflux Meds prior to surgery. My Surgeon told me to keep taking it as long as needed. Within two months I missed a dose and realized I had a good day with no issues and decided to stop taking it to see how it went. The Acid Reflux never came back and now I save the $30 monthly copay for that med!!!!
