Can we talk celery...

I've been meaning to bring this one up over the last few months...Thought now is as good as any.  When I first had RNY, the support system, through my surgeon said "no celery".  Yes, I know that it is stringy and can get caught in your throat and pouch...I get it.  But say after 6 months to a year it seems than one could attack celery if it is chopped finely.  I have had no issues with it ever post op.  I waited about a year to try it and first would only eat it finely chopped.  Now it's no big deal.  I never feel hungry post op, but I get that not full feeling...Which can cause grazing.  So what I try to do is graze on vegetables and get good exercise or hard work in most every day.  When I diet I will stuff myself with plain, raw vegetables (including celery) and it seems to help with some of my cravings.  I'm not a saint with my eating habits...but celery is in the mix.  Your thoughts??

I hate everything about celery so I have never eaten it, but if you want my tip of staving off grazing its lots of iced tea with lemon or water with lemon.  Lemon being the key here, I don't eat a lick of food at work but drink tons of iced tea with lemon and once its gone I keep filling my two twenty ounce cups with water.  I never feel hungry, shaky or any need to eat.  If I do eat then my RH kicks in and I have to keep eating, if I just drink the tea I am fine.

I have been eating celery since 6 months post op, no issues.  I love it with peanut butter for lunch.

If you are truly chewing it to mush before swallowing, you do not need to chop it finely.

I don't have any trouble with celery.  I was never advised to avoid it, either.  My surgeon said all veggies were OK.  I just wasn't supposed to have raw veggies until I was on a regular diet at six weeks out.
