Yes, that is myself. I just want to share what I did. For some reason I stopped taking my iron. Not just wanting to, I think I just plain left it out. For a long time I was fine. The last few months have been totally terrible. My feet, mainly my toes felt frost bit every single day all day long and I would layer socks, lay in bed with heating pad on them, would take like an hour and half to thaw, my finger tips on my right hand went numb and would turn white. Make a long story short, I am good now, not ever going to miss that dose of iron. I take all my others, always I even think I began losing my memory. Does anyone know if that can be possible? I hope I find that gets better.Today is really cold in Texas and I can enjoy the elements with out freezing like I had been...Dont forget anything friends! Have a super day, I am.

Google "effects of low iron".  You'll find all kinds of information.

Did you get your iron tested?  Have you been retested to ensure you are at a correct level now? It is VERY DIFFICULT to correct a deficiency and often has to be done with infusions.

Those sound like symptoms of B12 deficiency, not iron deficiency.  When B12 gets below about 550, people often start having symtpoms like depression, fatigue, trouble concentrating and poor short term memory.  When it gets below 400, never damage can begin to occur in hands and feet, causing numbness and tingling.

Have you had labs done lately?

I had B12 deficiency way before WLS.  I am suffering from chronic pain, depression and exhaustion.  I really thought losing weight might help with the energy portion and some of the chronic pain, but no changes yet in that department.  I've been on a low dose of Cymbalta and plan on asking for it to be increased the next time I see my gp.

My question is what are the differences in the oral, sublingual and injected B12.  Is one better than the other? I have numbness in arms and hands which have been going on for many years and they haven't been able to find the official cause.  At one point I had disc replacement surgery in my neck which they thought would alleviate the pain, but it didn't.

Of course ALL the doctors told me weight loss would help with posture and muscular issues which may be a cause, but surprise no relief yet.  I'm a sign language interpreter and NEED my arms and hands for obvious reasons.  Most days I just deal with the chronic pain and exhaustion, but it would really be nice to finally get some answers.

Lethargy, which can sometimes include cognitive impairment, and problems regulating body temperature (either direction) are symptoms of iron deficiency, so if you stopped taking your iron supplements for an extended period of time, that cold definitely cause the things you describe.  (Just to clarify, though... not taking any iron for just a couple of days, however, isn't going to cause symptoms unless levels were already extremely low.)

I'm glad you are feeling better and have learned how important it is for us to take all of our supplements.

Glad you are back on track now ... supplements are not an option, they are 100 per cent necessary for life.

Damn!  I had my "heavy winter coat" on last night when I walked from my car to a meeting (about 100 yards), and it was 54 degrees here.  Yikes!

Funnily enough, even though it's so cold here through the winter, unless you are out walking, people rarely wear coats ...  We have fantastic sunshine (over 300 days per year) so unless it's really frigid (like now), a puffa type vest is usually enough

I guess that means that I consider 54 degrees frigid.  And that you are a cold god.  And that I am a wimp.

Kim, then you HAD to be amused by our "snowpocalypse" last week in Birmingham....2 inches of snow which subsequently turned to 2 inches of solid ice on all the roadways...that are hilly, and we have no salt, no sand....and ass-hat drivers....

Spent 11 hours in my car attempting to get home- I live 15 miles from the office...............
