Attention diabetics

Hi guys, When I saw the Surgeon two days ago he told me to stay off the Metformin. I had quit taking it two days before to see if my blood sugars would stay down without it.  They have!  I am now off all diabetes drugs and blood pressure meds.  I was on 4 shots and metformin before I started the liquid diet before surgery.  There is hope for you if you're pre-op and on insulin.  Just wanted to share.

Jeremiah 29:11 " For I know the thoughts that I think towards you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end".

That is really great!!

I had RNY on 4/17/12, I have lost over 100 pounds but the diabetes is still with me.  Still fighting high blood sugars.  But I knew going in that RNY may not put my diabetes into remission since I have been a diabetic for over 20 years.

I have read that a lot of diabetics have went into remission after surgery and I think that is awesome that you are off your meds!!!

Good Luck Steve - debbie

How long were you diabetic prior to wls, the consensus seems to be if you were diabetic 2 years or less remission can be long term, that is what has been the case for me.  But if you were diabetic much longer before surgery your odds of it returning are higher.  Anyone can get it back.

Congratulations!   Going into remission is a wonderful thing - but please don't consider yourself cured ...

Continue to eat well, exercise faithfully and enjoy this remission as long as it lasts.   Continue to get your HbA1c checked on at least a twice yearly basis and keep on top of any changes!
