I told the Doctor it was a stall

I saw the Doctor Tuesday for the one month visit and to get released to return to work.  He was dissapointed in my weight loss the last two weeks.  He questioned me and tried to find out what the problem was.  I told him what I drink and what I had been eating.  He seemed to think I was not being truthful.. I reminded him that I had lost thirty pounds the two weeks before surgery and the two weeks after surgery.

I told him I was just in a stall.  He said, no you're not in a stall, it's to close to surgery.  The next morning I had lost another five pounds.  I have been walking a good bit and walked over two miles yesterday after work and did other exercises when I got back home.  I feel great and know I will start to lose well again my body was just catching up.  I see the Surgeon again in May for the three month checkup and want to have a good bit of weight off when I see him.  I just wish they wouldn't make all of us cookie cutter pateints and make imolications that I'm lying about what I'm doing.  I'm not worried because I know the effort I am putting into this and know the weight will come off in due time.  Hope everyone is having a great week.

We all have come short of the expectations of others and the glory of our healthcare professionals......

We are accountable to ourselves and the ones we love.

YOU and you alone know what you do daily. It is how you feel about yourself, your goals, your mind, body and soul.

Learning that YOU matter---what you think of yourself if far more important than making a doctor happy or anyone else for that matter.

Because we all know, if we don't take care of ourselves we will not be present for others.

You got this ! You are doing fantastic !

Next visit.....take your surgeon some cookie cutters.....

Steve:  EXACTLY the same thing happened to me.  My doc accused me of lying on myfitnesspal.  I cannot tell you how angry i was.  I offered to bring in the three months of meals (this was my 3 month check in) and he said not to bother as I could have been putting anything down.  He actually said I was eating 2300 calories per day to make myself stay where I was weight wise. I was so mad I could hardly breathe.  So I shrugged, left, and now have lose 110 lbs.  He was thrilled last visit ... Said I was "right where I should be".  At a support group I sat next to a girl who said he had done the same thing to her and she was so mad she was never going back.  I said she had to go back.  Like I did.  Need labs etc.  Just show him.  I wonder if it is some weird motivational thing they do?  I know it aure motivated me.  I am in my first true stall now but just plodding along.  I know it will end.  I am working on the last 25 and they are hard.  Keep at it.  It does work.....Sharon

If  a doctor or other health care professional is rude, verbally abusive, accuses you of lying, etc. you absolutely do not have to go back.  Yes, you do need to get labs done and other follow up care, but you do not have to get it from a professional that is behaving in an inappropriate and unprofessional manner.  I wouldn't.  Certainly you can choose to keep seeing him if you want to, but you have other options.

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

I'm really sorry to hear that.  I think that really stinks.  It sounds like you've already lost a lot and worked really hard, and to have a medical professional (one whom you seek their approval) basically try to call you out must have been really frustrating.  I'm glad to hear that you are in a good place about it and know that it is truly just the way it goes when losing weight and you are doing what you need to do.  I think it would have made me really question myself, but I'm glad you aren't.  Good luck to you and good job so far.  What an ass!

I'm sorry he was abrupt, but they see a lot of patients, and the fact is, most of those that are unsuccessful are noncompliant. The majority of people just guess at how much they are eating, never weigh their portions, and convince themselves they are eating what they should be. The closest they get to accurate portions is tossing around the term "moderation."

Follow your plan, know exactly what you are eating, and you will lose.

Well it's a good thing you're smart enough to know better

Sometimes I think they say those things more to "scare you straight" so to speak.....or to light a fire under you. Either way....only YOU know YOU and what your truth is. So just take care of yourself, love yourself, do the very best you can....forgive yourself when you make a mistake, and have faith that you are strong enough, you deserve this better life,  and you can do this.....even if HE hasn't figured that out yet

Great attitude, Steve! It made me really angry to read the comments on here about surgeons doing things like this to "motivate" people. I know it works on a lot of folks - my dad used to joke that he could get my sister to do anything just by telling her she couldn't do it.

Well, guess, what? I am the exact opposite of that - if you tell me I can't do something, I agree with you and give up. If my surgeon tried to play head games like that with me, I would probably still be MO.

Keep up the good work, and keep coming here for some real support - you're doing great!
