Ok, that was a first for me...
I was interviewing a young lady for a job, and found out she is an Excercise Science major, and her last job was at a bariatric center in another state. She was telling me about her experiences in dealing with obese and morbidly obese patients, having no idea that I had RNY just 7 months ago. Because I am evil, and I like to see how people react when put under pressure, I prodded her, just a little.
She got quite defensive of her patients. She tells me, "You just can't understand how hard it can be. Just walking half a mile is a struggle for someone with a BMI of 35. It isn't the same as it is for you and me."
I couldnt help help it, I burst out laughing at this point. Don't worry, I let her in on the joke... Eventually. And I gave her props for being feisty.
I feel like I have a "normal person" cloaking device- I don't know what I was thinking, but for whatever weird reason I guess I thought it would always be obvious that I have a weight issue. Instead of a Scarlett A, it would be a scarlet O
