I am confused with this.  This morning I rode the bike at work for 30 mins. The display in it said I burned 100 calories. But when I went log it my fitness pal said I burned a lot more. So what should I go by?

thanks for your help

I have heard myfitnesspal projects too high for calories burned on average. Are you logging the calories burned for any particular reason? If you are just trying to track - going more conservative would be better probably. Same if you are trying to eat the additional calories burned.

I am just tracking g for no good reason.  I get excited to see I rode the bike for 7 miles in 30 mins.  But over all no reason.

I feel the Activity Calories are "too high" on Myfitnesspal. I'd go with your bike display from work.

Enjoy your day

For calories burned I would reccomnded just assume it's about 30% overstated or just put in a 200 calorie plug for the day on your food to cover any miscalculations by you or the app on calories burned/consumed.

Partially there might be a discrepancy if My Fitness Pal has your weight in it and the bike you rode doesn't. I would also go with a more conservative number.

I was under the impression that if you have your weight and stats in MFP that it was fairly accurate on calories burned.

I have found with all my tracking at approx.. 150 pounds I burn 35 calories per mile.

MFP is wayyyyy over on calories burned. Some people use it as an excuse to eat back their exercise calories. Don't fall into that trap.

Ignore calories burned. Almost all are wrong. Log your miles and time so you can look back and see if you are maintaining your activity in the future.

I don't trust the gym machines or any generic calculation that does not involve knowing how much you worked.

The most trusted method is using a HRM.

Depending on where you are in your journey, (especially if you are really trying to lose weight) I would not eat any of the burned calories, I would just consider them bonus.  But to really get a good idea of your calorie burn you need to know how hard your heart worked.

I have just ordered a bluetooth HRM and hopefully it will be here soon (not to eat them, just to know how hard I am working in the gym).
