I've been having a lot a pain lately and went in for a upper endoscopy last week. I do have an ulcer but what terrified me is that the report indicated my pouch was 3 cm. That sounds huge...am I doomed to regain all the weight I have lost. My weight has gone up since my lowest weight but am I doomed because of a 3cm pouch. I read an article by a bariatric surgeon that indicated any pouch > 2 cm has problems with weight gain.

3cm measured how?

There are 2.54cm in an inch, so as I am envisioning it, you are saying it is just over 1in in diameter.

The pouch should be able to eventually hold about a cup and that should be fine, but a cup is bigger than 3cm in diameter.

Unless you have done things to stretch it (carbonated beverages, over eating, etc.), it is not likely you have stretched it beyond normal.

The more likely scenario is that there are too many carbs being consumed and not enough protein, or grazing, or other unsuitable eating behaviors.

How much has it gone up?  How far out are you from surgery?  Is this the "normal" bounce back of a few lbs when working on maintenance?

Carbonated beverages cannot stretch the pouch.

With how I have felt when I ate too much or too fast, I do not see how anyone could ever tolerate anything that could stretch it.

Here is an interesting article I found searching for the size of the pouch.

Are you talking about your pouch or your stoma?  I'm guessing the latter ...

No the report says "prior gastric bypass with 3 cm gastric pouch no evidence of a fistula...there was a ulcer in the gastric anastomotic region." I assume the IG doctor knows the difference between the gastric pouch and the stoma. Why are you guessing it is the latter?

Because right after surgery, the pouch is about 15 CC or the size of a golf ball.  That is a good bit bigger than 3cm.

Maybe you refering to 3 cc - = 3 cubic centimeters= 3ml..

It is small not big. You be fine..
