I am still regretting this surgery.... 13 months out.... Normal?
I am 13 months out and I still am regretting this surgery. I have been nothing but sick the last 13 months and it feels like my life is slowly draining away from me. I have had to have my gall-bladder out. Suffered tons of kidney stones. Suffered from a blood clot in my lung. Suffered from two hernias that needed surgery to repair them. Had a twist in my stomach that needed surgery to repair it. The most famous ones I suffer with is severe stabbing stomach pains with severe nausea that runs me to the e.r. for heavy duty pain medications and nausea medication. Sometimes the pain meds work and sometimes they don't. Same goes with the nausea meds. I have lost a lot of weight very fast because of how sick I have been the last 13 months that stopped me from eating. I can not seem to tolerate much foods. A few bites and I am full. Same thing with the protein drinks. a few sips and I am full. But when I do eat, it doesn't matter what it is it will either cause diarrhea or severe nausea. I still can not tolerate any kinds of meats no matter how well I chew them through to mush. I have had endless tests done and they can't seem to know whats wrong with me. I have lost over 160+ pounds in 13 months. I have became very thin, very pale, very weak to the point that I am in bed all the time. I have no energy anymore. I have bags under bags under my eyes. My ribs are showing through and its nasty. All my blood tests come back normal that nothing is low besides my iron which is normal because I am anemic since I was a kid. I am afraid if someone doesn't find out what is wrong with me that I am not gonna be here too much longer, and I don't wanna feel that way cause I have a 4yr old son who needs me. But at this rate I won't be here too much longer and I am only 22 years old. I am very scared. I regret this surgery.....
What is there for me to do?
I don't know because I have not had mine yet. Do you go to all your post appointments and what does your surgeon say ? If the surgeon that done your operation does not want to help you than maybe you could find another one that does these kind of surgeries to help you find the problem. Just wanted to wish you well. Sorry you are suffering .
Find a good therapist who deals with post op RNY patients. Sometimes our minds make us have physical symptoms. If the doctors can 't find a PHYSICAL reason for some of your problems then
maybe a head doc is in order. Many post ops have to deal with mental issues - losing their best friend food, having to find new coping mechanisms, dealing with post op life when there's no food
binging to turn to. It all adds up - mind and body work well when both are in sync. Many post ops had issues before surgery but overeating and being less active and out there was enough to control
what they don't have now. Get some good counseling from an outside source. you'll be surprised to find out things you didn't know you felt or were doing. I remember a girl who had wls and was sabotaging herself because she was so guilty she had to have surgery in the first place. Once her therapist got her to believe the obesity wasn't entirely her fault she could let go of that and the physical symptoms disappeared. I'm
sorry you're having problems. Find a good therapist or psychologist. Your surgeon may be able to recommend one - my surgeon has one on staff for post op patients. See if that doesn't help you a bit - in the meantime
I'll be sending positive thoughts your way for you to feel better.

I am so sorry that you are going through all this! My suggestion is to find an internal medicine doctor that is familiar with gastric bypass, make them your primary care physician and get a physical and blood work done and go from there. Are you lactose intolerant? Are you allergic to whey or soy protein? You are so young and have your full life ahead of you. I am 8.5 years out and have done wonderfully so I am sending good thoughts your way and hope you can get his all figured out.
Good Luck!

You've posted about this numerous times. What tests have you had to determine the cause of the pain? If the doctors you are seeing are not giving you answers, fire them and find some new ones.
good luck

With all the additional surgeries you have had, it is likely that the pain you get is somehow related to adhesions. Unfortunately, many surgeons these days don't want to do yet another surgery to remove them because THAT surgery will just cause new scar tissue at the site of every single existing adhesion that they remove. So it is a cyclical thing that can get worse with each surgery.
I second the suggestion to find a good psychologist or counselor who may be able to help you get a handle on whether some of what you have experienced, and are still experiencing, is psychological in nature. Not meaning that you aren't having physical ailments and that the pain is "all in your head", but meaning that your mind can play a significant role in what your body experiences. Many studies over the years have shown, for example, how the amount of pain and post-op nausea that people expect to feel after surgery influences the amount of pain and nausea that they report actually having.
Finally, if you are having that much trouble eating and drinking, and are so frail and unhealthy, I would speak with your surgeon about considering a reversal of your RNY. Your surgeon is likely not trained to do a reversal, but he can probably refer you to someone who is. (You may have to travel to have it done since so few surgeons really have experience with it; it is a much more complex surgery than the original RNY.)

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
If you can post your complete blood work test - some of us can figure out what tests the doc did not run. I was tired. Yet my blood work was OK. But some vets helped me realized that my doc did not run fwritin levels. And some other lasbs that I needed.
Please post you lab results.

You ask "What am I to do".........
Several people have asked you for more information so they can try to help you. You could answer their questions.
You've posted numerous times about your problems - please provide answers to the questions asked and maybe you'll get some valuable information.
Hope you find a solution to your problems.
You've posted the same thing more than once. Have you followed up on any of the suggestions you've gotten yet?
You also post somewhat contradictory info. In a post a few months ago, you say you've had "drops" in "some of your vitamins" but now say all labs are fine except iron. Are you sure all your other labs are fine? Can you post your latest lab report?
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
