Oh my!  I'm so sorry to be reading this!  I did not have an open one, however let me just say my first day I had my regrets as well due to the pain I was in.  I am 2 months out from my RNY and I would do it all over again.  I understand I can't even compare to what you are going through but hang in there.  It does get better.  My thoughts and prayers are with you for a speedy and healthy recovery!

Hang in there! My RNY was laproscopic, however I did have 3 other open abdominal surgeries several years prior. In a week or 2 you will be feeling a much better, in minimal pain and getting like a champ. Things will get better and long term I am certain you will be much happier. Take it day by day...little by little.

Hoping and praying that your recovery goes well over the next several week.

The doctor found part of your intestines were dead?   If that is correct then it was a good thing you had the surgery done.  The pain will go away before you know it.

I'm so sorry to hear you had complications. I did not have an open rny but some of the vets who are farther out did. It's probably good that you had the surgery though because you had issues going on that you didn't know about that would have made you really sick  eventually. At least now they know what is there. Hang in there and do what the doctors and nurses say and keep remembering the end goal--a healthier you. You will get through this and as the weight drops off you will realize that it was all worth it. Praying for a speedy recovery and a smooth journey from here on out.

I agree with the above poster - how lucky that you did have this surgery considering some of your intestines were dead!

OMG !!!! It may be out of place for me to say anything as I'm so very new to the process and haven't even had my orientation appt booked. I'm so sorry to hear you are struggling. May I just say I'm a Registered Nurse in an Emergency Dept and I know how serious the issue of having dead bowel inside the body can be. Thank God they found it, it may have saved you life !!! Please hang in there things will get better and in the end I'm sure you will feel differently. Keep your chin up !!! I'm hoping for a speedy recovery for you :-)

Mine was open but it was a revision and I wasn't in the best shape going in so recovery was longer then when I had my first surgery lap.  I've had other abdominal surgery, including 2 c sections so it wasn't something that I was unfamiliar with and I knew it would get better.  At least I didn't have a newborn to take care of on top of it.

I'm sorry you are having a rough time.  Give it a while and I'll bet by 6 months, when things are better and the weight loss noticeable, you won't have the same regrets.
