OK, how big of an IDIOT am I??
My RNY is on Friday and im at the end of my 2 week preop diet. The directions I was given said 3 protein shakes a day - must have at least 15g protein and around 150 calories. I can also have dinner - 3oz lean protein and veggies or a frozen lo cal dinner. Also need to take 4 Optisource vitamins a day and drink 64oz water. The ony restrictions given were *no milk (unless you need it to mix protein shakes, then take fat free milk) * no juices * no regular soda and * no sports drinks.
Ok here is my actual dilemma.... when i mix my protein shakes at home i do use 1/2 water and 1/2 fat free milk BUT Ive been using the Atkins shakes for the other 2 shakes daily while at work and i just realized that they contain milk. Do you think they contain fat free milk or i have i been unknowingly consuming all of this milk with out even knowing it? Since milk is one of the few restrictions im assummings its a big no-no and with only a few days left I dont know if i have time to undo the damage i might have done. Am i freaking out for no reason?? I think im just starting to panic since surgery is getting close and i want everything to go perfectly.

Breathe deeply.
IN, OUT, IN, OUT
You are freaking out for no reason.
Yes, you were given some instructions, but 1, the milk they contain is likely fat free milk, and two, I seriously doubt it matters.
I was given no such instructions. And while I do believe one should adhere to their surgeon's requirements (it is what you signed up for after all), you did not purposefully disregard it.
It is a lesson in reading labels and ingredients and knowing what you are consuming.
But you will be fine. And it will go fine.
Don't freak out! As Jeffrey said, most likely it isn't a big deal. The shakes probably don't contain that much milk and what they do is probably fat free.
Again, use this as a reminder that reading labels is SUPER important once you're post-op.
And just to put you a bit at ease, I had a 2 week liquid diet pre-op. I was only to have shakes and the recommendation was either Slim Fast or Atkins, so there you go!
Good luck - take a bunch of deep breaths and remember, most people start freaking out a bit at this stage, so you're not alone!

Don't stress about it. Dr. Pohl has always been anti-dairy he says milk is for babies only. Everything will be fine on Friday.
Not sure if she is in ambultory this Friday, but my SIL works at Roger Williams and helps pre-op and post-op for WLS.
Thanks everyone for your responses! Definatly a lesson learned in reading labels!! seems like the no milk rule may be more specific to my surgeon... i just hope my liver is to his liking on Friday :)
ladygodiva--what is you SIL first name? Who knows, maybe she will be my nurse!
