Tomorrow I will be one week post op and where as most has gone well minus the extreme pain on day one I never expected.  I am a surgery veteran and wow I never imaged this. Nevertheless I biggest problem is water. Every time I drink it causes so much pain in my back and chest plus burning in my chest sometime. The pain is tightness and pressure.  Is this normal? When will it pass?

It took me several weeks until it got easier to drink. You just need to sip it all the time which is trying but it will get better. I am now almost 5 months and I can drink several swallows at one time but it is difficult in the beginning.Just relax and sip don't try to over do it.I was thirsty all the time until several weeks. Good luck one hint crystal light will be one thing you can drink.

Thank you for replying. I keep taking the smallest of sips and still it is so hard. I really hope it gets easier.

Water was my biggest issue too!  It was really painful, no matter what temperature. I tried it cold, cool, room, warm, hot.  It all caused sharp pains in my whole mid-section.  It's also the only thing that makes me burp but to this day, I will burp almost everytime a take a sip.  My surgeon suggested I put some crystal lite in it. He said is was easier for some people to drink flavored.  I don't like Crystal Lite so I just deal with it.  It was pretty uncomfortable for a month but it is getting better.  It was the big surprise for me in the whole process though!  Congratulations on your surgery and joining the Loser's Bench!!!

Thank you. It's great to know that it is all normal.  I will try Crystal Light next time.  Wish me luck.

I am three weeks post OP and I have the same issue with water. I will say that this week it is not as bad and my nut said the same thing about adding Crystal lite ( which I am also not a fan of). My nut said it will get better as the weeks go on and like I said this week is much better so far.
