Gallbladder Removal
I am nearly 8 months post op and started having severe pain on my right side. I went for ultrasound on Friday and they found several gallstones and suggest I have my gallbladder removed. My regular dr is referring me to a surgeon that performs a single incision surgery. Has anyone had this after RNY? Not sure if I am even a candidate, but just wondering how severe pain is after gallbladder removal.
Gallbladder surgery is very common for anyone with large and rapid weight loss, not just those who had WLS. So you are far from alone. I still have mine, but have seen posts from many who had theirs removed. Pain is a personal thing. Some say it wasn't bad, others say it was worse than WLS.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes.
6'3" tall, male.
Highest weight was 475. RNY on 08/21/12. Current weight: 198.
M1 -24; M2 -21; M3 -19; M4 -21; M5 -13; M6 -21; M7 -10; M8 -16; M9 -10; M10 -8; M11 -6; M12 -5.
I had mine out 2 months after surgery. To be honest the recovery was pretty easy but the pain was worse for me the first few days - probably because I didn't have a pain pump like I did with the RNY. I have been dealing with nausea but it is slowly going away. Not having the gallbladder attacks is a huge relief.
Just had mine out Friday. Still sore but not as bad as bypass. Just trying to heal. Same surgeon that did WLS did gallbladder surgery. They used 2 of my previous incisions and made 2 more. I'm about 3 1/2 months out.
Edited: Still having nausea but trying to manage with meds so I can try to get food down. Had to go to ER yesterday to get a different med and an IV.
