Need help with soft diet
Hi, I'm two weeks out from an RNY on 9/16/14. Tomorrow I transition to Postop weeks 3-7, soft food. For the past two weeks I've just had greek yogurt, cottage cheese, soup and cream of wheat as "solids". Now I can introduce baked fish and chicken, tuna, crab, scrambled eggs, soft low fat cheese, well cooked beans. I'm just not sure how to prepare these foods for this phase. If I have baked chicken for example, do I have to blend it in a blender? Or just cut it up really, really fine? What kind of soft low fat cheese can I have? Lo-fat mozzarella? Do I have to somehow blend that?
Thanks!
Susan
You should not have to blend your food on a soft food diet. If you were on pureed foods, you would. But check with your surgeon's office if you aren't sure.

Take this for what it is worth, I haven''t had surgery yet. I have been reading on here some folks like to use the crock pot because the food is more tender and moist. They find it easier to digest. Also Theworldaccordingtoeggface.com has a lot of recipes for all stages of weight loss. Your Dr should have given you a list of foods you should refer to though.
Best of luck I can't wait to try new recipes
Hello - I am 3 weeks post op and also doing stage 3 foods, but not all the time. Still having a bit of difficulty eating slowly and with tiny bites. I've been eating minestrone soup, minus the broth - veggies are soft, lots of beans and shredded beef, I'm also adding extra spinach because I'm anemic post surgery. For whatever reason I can easily eat small bites of salad with hb eggs, kidney beans, beets and bay shrimp. Tiny bites of meatballs are good vs chicken. I think it's because meatballs are moist but chicken is kind of dry. Don't forget about deli meats. Easy to eat (again small bites) and full of protein. I've got a foot in Stage 2 and a foot in stage 3 and mostly feeling fine. Have lost 20 lbs in 3 weeks and am looking forward to a healthy future. Good luck and I'll look for tips from you too!
One of my first soft foods was refried beans with shredded lowfat cheese on top. It was heavenly at the time. Now, not so much. LOL
