UPDATE: Huge Turning Point Starts Today
Today I see my doctor and will have my A1C done for the first time since surgery which was on 8/22/14. I can see my sugar control has been doing much better than expected so I can't wait to see what the test results will be. I have been diabetic since my early 20's and soon it will have been nearly two decades of trying a variety medicines and of course insulin. Always chasing control and then once I have it something else changes and there goes my control and off to try new medicines. Finally, I am looking at the very real possibility of NOT being on any medicines at all or at the very least a very small amount. I know know the injections will stop and that in it self is a victory but I want more.
If the results are good soon all my medicines will be officially stopped except for my vitamins. If I never lose a pound again I can say with certainity this surgery was a 100% success for me.
Wish me luck, there is a chance a long time dream may be coming true for me very soon.
UPDATE: Got my results. Not quite under 5.0 A1C but getting better. I'll check again in 3 months. There is good news and bad. The bad news is I still have to continue the pills for now. The good news is I am completely done with injections. Since surgery I have stopped 3 medications. Only 2 more to go and I am a free woman.
Take a deep breath and know it may not be there yet. A1c is a measure that is about the previous 3 months of sugars. You're only 8 weeks out. My A1c was 5.5 pre surgery and I wasn't diabetic or even considered pre diabetic as my fasting and 2 hour post praninial were very normal. I hope for instant results but be aware it may not have happened yet.
Hi iHeartTeas:
This is such an inspiration to read...the first posting I read of yours was when you initially had your RNY and your posting was not too happy.... I was apprehensive about persuing my wls based on your comments; it is good to see that things have changed for you and it gives me hope......I am glad you will be able to come off of the diabetic medication ... I know it has not been confirmed as of yet; but I believe in speaking positiveness into existence.
