Vitamin D3

I just bought some Vitamin D3 soft chews but am wondering if the sugar in the chews will be a problem. Each chew has 3 grams of sugar and I think I might need to have two chews. Any thoughts?

Thanks! I'm four weeks out from an RNY.

It is probably not a problem.  Most RNYers are told to keep sugar to single digits, and even the most conservative post-op plans call for sugar under about 6g, so you would still be within that.

If you are worried, eat one and wait 15 minutes or so eat the second one.

In the future, if you are looking for D3 that doesn't have sugar, my DH and I have had good luck with Target's D3 softgels.  We each take one per day.  They are a little smaller than a Tic Tac.  The provide 2000 IU and go down very easily due to their size and texture.

I have read that we need to take DRY D3, not the soft gels, because we don't absorb those as well. . . or some other reason.  Does anyone know if this is true?  It's hard to find dry D3, but I swear that I've read on here several times that we shouldn't do the soft gels.

I have never heard that there is any problem with the Vit D in the chewables.  The problem is with the Vit D that is in oil capsules, especially early out, because we malabsorb fat/oil.

The chews don't have fat, though, so as long as they are D3 rather than D2, they should be fine.

edited to add that we CAN absorb D2, but we need much more of it because the body has to convert the D2 to D3 and we lose a lot in the process.

I also was told by my Sugeron to only take Dry Vitamin D3, as we do not absorb the oil in the gel.

I find doses of Dry D3 at Walmart, up to 5,000 IU.
